What is a dating scan?
A dating scan is performed when you are between 11 and 14 weeks pregnant and will be performed transabdominally (over the tummy). This scan is an opportunity for you to meet your baby for the first time and find out your estimated due date.
How should I prepare for my dating scan?
Please arrive with a full bladder. This will help the sonographer be able to get a clear picture of your baby on the scan.
About the dating scan
This scan is performed transabdominally (over your tummy) to confirm your pregnancy dates and give you an estimated due date. It’s also a special chance to see your baby for the first time.
What’s included:
- Confirm your pregnancy
- Confirm if you have one baby or multiple babies
- Check your baby’s heartbeat visualisation and meet them for the first time
- An ovary and pelvic area assessment to check everything is fine with your body and your baby is in the correct place
- Get an estimated due date for your baby
- Receive a medical report of your scan
- Receive four printed images of your baby to take away
- Bring a partner, friend or family member with you to the scan
